Corporate Events and Hospitality for the AMERICA CUP
The America’s Cup is the most important sailing competition in the sport, indeed the third most economically important sporting event for the host country after the Olympic Games and the football World Cup.
The competition itself is divided into 2 parts:
First, it is established which teams earn the right to compete for the defence and challenge for the trophy. Subsequently, the two winning teams face each other in the Copa America itself.
- Choice of defender and challenger
The defending club can choose the team that will represent it in a race called the Defender Selection Series, which has been called the Citizen Cup since 1992.
The challenger is the winner of the Challenger Selection Series, which has been called the Louis Vuitton Cup since 1983. They are contested when there is more than one team challenging for the America’s Cup. - The America’s Cup Match, or America’s Cup itself. It is the confrontation between the challenger and the defender.
Location
The first defence of the trophy was in New York City (1870) until 1983 when it was moved to New Port until 1983 when, after 132 years of American hegemony, it was moved to Perth, Australia. Since then, the various editions have been held in: San Diego (USA), Auckland (New Zealand) and in Valencia (Spain) two editions from 2007 to 2010.
